Social Media Engagement – Effectively Engaging Audiences

Social Media Engagement for Nonprofit Organizations

Here’s One Key Factor to Include In Your Posts:

We understand that current and potential donors want to know what we’re doing with the funds entrusted to us. But they also want to know that what we’re doing is actually contributing to the change that we commit to. The Plan vs. The Action.

So, when you’re making posts on social media:

Don’t just tell the audience what work you’re doing. Communicate your impact as well.

❌Today, the [Organization name] gave out ___# of [item or service needed]. Picture follows with smiling faces.

Instead…

✅64% of Americans struggle with [relatable service offered by your organization] and finding resources to help. That’s where [our Organization] comes in at. To-date [or this year so far], we have provided X # of [relatable service] to X # of Americans in an area where _% of the residents suffer from need.

Then, follow-up with a call to action that either engages them in the comments or welcomes them to join in the work through volunteering or giving.

You can ask a question that engages followers in the conversation and invites them to get involved, or point them directly to the opportunities.

✅“We have some upcoming opportunities if you want to get involved. Here’s how you can help: [provide link to Get Involved page, which should outline not only volunteer opportunities, but giving as well].”

✅ You can alternatively include an ending statement along the lines of, “To learn more about [Organization’s] plan for [service area, or service area in specific location],..” [provide link to page or document].

When you only tell people what you’re doing, but you don’t communicate your impact, and you don’t call them to action, you leave them to either like the post and keep scrolling, or shrug their shoulders, nod their head, and keep scrolling.

Summary: What Is Engagement?

Lastly, engagement involves likes, comments, and shares.

Impact can lead to likes.

Questions can lead to comments.

Requests with benefits to the audience can lead to shares.

What do I mean by ‘requests’? Here’s a simple example: “If you or anyone you know could ever benefit from our work, share this post to keep our communities updated and aware of what we’re doing and how we can help them at the most crucial times of need.”

So, I hope this posts helps a lot.

Keep in touch!
